History & Notes: This outfit belonged to Kim (Ok-Ja) Carlson (b. 1951, d. 2005). Kim was born in Korea. In 1956, she traveled from Korea to the United States and was adopted by Roy and Dorothy Carlson of Pocatello. Kim is believed to have been one of the first Korean orphans adopted in the U.S. She wore this winter suit on her journey from Seoul, Korea, to the United States.
Description: Three piece suit with mittens comprises wool pants, pea coat, hat and knit mittens. Double breasted jacket features Peter-Pan collar and is made of a red, cream, blue, and black hounds tooth wool trimmed with center closure and shoulders of solid red wool. Pants are red wool with bib type closure. Hat is of same red wool and hounds-tooth wool with ear flaps and a red silky damask bow. Blue knitted mittens connected by a long string of the same blue yarn and are worn threaded through the arms of the jacket so they cannot be lost should the wearer take them off.
