History & Notes: Mary Christofferson Anderson came out west with a wagon train of Mormon pioneers, but along with a substantial portion of her group, left the Mormon Church at part of the "Morrisite Sect," or the Church of the Firstborn. While continuing West, the Morrisites were attached by the followers of Brigham Young and many were killed. Mary was severely injured when she was hit by cannon fire in the jaw and was left with a significant scar on her chin. She and her future husband Niels Anderson became the first known Euro-American pioneers to marry in Idaho Territory and they settled in Soda Springs in 1863.
