Jingle Dress
History & Notes: CarylDene Swan is a member of the Coeur dAlene Tribe. She made the jingle dress around 1997 for her oldest daughter Jaycee Goudy. Jaycee wore it for about a year. CarylDene's youngest daughter Antoinette Peters wore it for a year (2008-2009) at many different pow wows in Coeur dAlene and throughout the Pacific Northwest.
Description: Child-sized jingle dress. Base material of dress is purple cotton blend. Strips of geometric patterned fabric at neck, cuffs, and two on skirt. Colors in geometric pattern include turquoise, gray, black, green, and tan. Purple satin ribbon borders geometric fabric at neck and on skirt. High rounded neckline above a "V" in the geometric fabric. Top of sleeves are purple and gather into pleats at the cuffs. Sleeve cuffs are narrower than upper part of sleeve and are comprised of the geometric fabric. At back of neck is approximately 6 1/2" long purple zipper with plastic teeth and metal pull. Silver-toned metal cones hang/dangle from dress. Cones are approximately 2 1/2" long. They are made from rolled snuff can lids, pinched closed at top and open at bottom. Raised text and leaf pattern on lids. Cones attached to dress with strips of folded blue fabric. Cones encircle the dress at 4 levels - at neckline (V in front and horizontal in back), two horizontal lines on skirt, and one around bottom hem.
