History & Notes: This finely carved wooden cane was given to Senator George Shoup when he was in Washington DC. George L. Shoup served as Idaho's last territorial governor, first state governor, and later Idaho's first senator to the United States Congress.
Description: Honey brown river cypress cane with an opera handle intricately carved into a baby alligator. The silver ferrule has a raised design of dots and an alligator wrapped around the cane, to cover the seam, and joined with a small nail. Below the ferrule is a diamond shaped engraved plae. A red rubber end has been added to the cane to protect the wood.
