History & Notes: This young girl's dress was part of an assortment of clothing which belonged to Barbara Wheelwright's grandparents and great-grandparents who were German immigrants that first settled in Iowa in the 1800s.
Description: Dress with matching pantaloons is entirely hand stitched. Brown plaid material makes up the dress and the legs of the pantaloons. Dress is long sleeved with piping at shoulder seams and sleeve cuffs. Sleeves are lined in white muslin. Slight drop shoulder. Bodice front has gathered center panel. Skirt waist features cartridge pleats for added fullness. Center back closure of 8 hooks and eyes. Skirt hem is lined with blue and yellow geometric patterned fabric. Pantaloons feature an open groin. Legs are in same plaid as dress with the top and straps in white muslin.
