History & Notes: Dr. C.K Ah Fong gave these beautiful Chinese shoes to 15 year old Jessica "Jessie" Brumm Antisell in 1887 for her performance in a play later that year. Jessica's daughter, Marion Antisell Roberts, later donated the shoes to the Idaho State Historical Society in 1962.
Description: Chinese women's shoes with painted, stacked leather heel carved to create a tapered platform. The uppers are made of a pale pink silk brocade lined in a pink cotton cloth. Toe is trimmed with a velvet cloud like medallion embellished with blue thread. At the center of the medallion, metallic embroidery depicts four butterflies surrounding a floral centerpiece. Navy satin borders the top line and heel of the shoe. A faded blue stamp can be found in the interior of the shoe.
