History & Notes: This bold purple suit was worn by Paul Revere Dick, headliner for the rock band, Paul Revere and the Raiders. Made in United Kingdom, the approximate age of the suit coincides with the years Paul and the band were touring throughout Europe. In many of the pieces he wore on and off the stage, Paul marked his garments with his name or initials. True to form, the jacket of the suit carries his name "PAUL R." and "PAUL" on the satin lining. It is unlikely that this was one of Paul's stage costumes since it is lacking in the band's usual level of embellishment. In about 1974, Paul donated his suit to the Good Samaritan's Store where noted clothing collector, Mary Lesser, purchased the piece. She later donated Paul's suit to the Idaho State Historical Society.
Description: Purple velvet suit comprises a jacket and pants. Pants are of same purple velvet with three buttons at waist and a zipped fly. Cuffs of the pants are slightly flared and have a slit up the front allowing the cuff to drape over the wearer's boot.
