History & Notes: This dress was part of a collection of clothing that came from the Vollmer home in Lewiston, Idaho. This dress would have been worn by one of J.P. Vollmer's four daughters. Because of the style and probable age of the wearer, it is likely that this would have been worn by Evangeline Vollmer, the oldest of the Vollmer children. Evangeline died of a sudden illness in 1881 which may explain the extremely light usage of the dress.
Description: Child's dress with a small, red checked pattern. Panel of tucks across shoulders and upper bodice. Tuck panel ends with a short ruffle trimmed in white machine lace. Slight dropped waist with two ruffled tiers of skirt. Cuffs, collar, skirt ruffle, and hemline are trimmed in white machine lace. Gold pin at collar neck.
