History & Notes: Belonged to Emma Bauer (1913-2005), daughter of Lina Katarina Bauer (1880-1977) and Christian Heinrich (Henry) Bauer (1878-1954). Probably purchased by, or gifted to, her when she graduated from cosmetology school in San Francisco in 1933/34. She wore the necklace in her graduation photo. Emma returned to her home in Letha, Idaho where she briefly operated a beauty shop. Emma was born in 1913 in Liverpool, England. She married Otis Thayer (1899-1984) in 1951 in Seattle Washington. They did not have any children. Lina Katarina Bauer and Henry Bauer immigrated from Germany to Liverpool, England and later married in 1907. They ran a butcher shop in England and then immigrated to the United States following violent anti-German attacks in England leading up to WWI. They sailed to New York in 1915 and took a train to Idaho. They settled in Letha, Idaho and owned the Letha Blacksmith Shop. In addition to blacksmithing, the shop distributed coal, gasoline, oil, and tires. They had four children and three grandchildren. The donor, Linda Allen Riggs (1942- ) is the granddaughter of Lina and Henry Bauer and niece of the original owner of this neclace.
