History & Notes: Ensemble worn by Mrs. Mary Haines for the inaugural ball held for her husband, Governor John M. Haines in 1913. Governor Haines' inaugural ball was the first to be held in the Idaho State Capitol building. At some point after the ball, the gown was taken apart but the major components and accessories were saved by the family. In 1974, Mary Haines' niece, Mrs. Wallace Campbell, donated the gown to the Idaho State Historical Society. It is shown here on a reconstructed yellow satin and lace sheath to demonstrate how the garment was originally worn by Mrs. Haines in 1913.
