History & Notes: Edith and Ralph Walden donated this petite silver purse to the Idaho State Historical Society in 2007. The purse belonged to Laura Shoup, daughter of Idaho's last territorial governor and first state governor, George L. Shoup. Laura and her siblings were highly educated socialites who traveled extensively. The sisters were very active in education and other charitable enterprises throughout their lives.
Description: Sterling silver purse, exterior silver, engraved with floral design with crown and engraved monogram "LS" "Laura Shoup", engraving on one side. Chain handle affixed at each side of top clasp Interior is lined with pink watered silk and folds to create three compartments. A calling card was found in the purse and reads "Miss Laura Shoup". Center compartment has silver latch to keep it closed.
