History & Notes: Donor received as a gift in 1970 from Grace Martin, wife of Dr. Boyd Martin. Grace inherited the stole from her Aunt Charlotte Swingler (b. 1873, d. 1945). Charlotte married John A. Finch (b. 1852, d. 1915) in 1897. Finch was a partner with the Idaho mining firm, Finch and Campbell. They purchased the Gem Mine in the Coeur d�Alene district. Later developing the Standard Mine in 1891, then the Hecla Mine. Finch was the accountant and secretary. Mr. Finch, a civic leader, later became president of the White and Bender Company, the Coeur d�Alene Hardware Company, and Black Fruit Company of Walla Walla. He and Charlotte had no children. John died at his country home at Hayden Lake, Idaho, on June 20, 1915. Charlotte continued to live in their Spokane mansion until 1927.
