History & Notes: These were worn in England from 1533 to 1603 by ancestors of Mrs. J.E. Leng and Emma M. Heckman. Mrs. Leng and Mrs. Heckman donated the pattens to the Idaho State Historical Society in 1921.
Description: Pair of wooden and leather pattens to be worn over other shoes. The pattens have a wooden sole with no left or right distinctive shape. Both pattens have thick leather straps; one has a thinner leather lace that is threaded across the two straps, the other is missing the lace. The wooden sole is raised above the ground by a platform with a metal ring base. "527-45" is written on one shoe and the other has "627-44" on top of sole.
