History & Notes: Worn by a soldier during the Civil War. This and other pieces of clothing belonged to Mrs. Joseph McIntyre and her daughter, Mrs. Lewis F. Cook. Mother and daughter came to Owyhee County with their husbands from Texas in 1869. After the Camas Prairie and Snake River Indian Wars, Mr. and Mrs. L.F. Cook took up a homestead four miles northeast of Caldwell where they lived for more than sixty years.
Description: Navy blue wool and black patent leather forage cap with brass unit insignia at front. Cloth lining. Stiffening in cap brim.
