History & Notes: Belonged to Idaho first lady Mary Haines (b. 1864, d. 1939). John and Mary Haines lived at 919 Hays Street in Boise. John served as governor of Idaho from 1913 to 1915. Prior to being elected governor he served as mayor of Boise from 1907 to 1909. Donor's grandmother Alice Haines was Mary Haines' sister-in-law. She inherited the home when Mary died in 1939. Donor's parents Wallace B. and Anna L. Campbell bought the house from Alice and donor grew up in the home. Dress probably dates from 1905-1910.
Description: Off white/ tan sheer day dress in the Edwardian fashion style. High empire waist. Knitting or crocheting on the shoulders and cuffs of dress. Neckline contains embroidery with orange and brown thread. Skirt also contains lace knitting or crocheting on front back and both sides of dress. floral embroidery above lace on skirt also containing orange and brown thread. Hem contains a ruffled layer with 2 lines of lace along hem. Hook and eyes on back of dress. Pintuck detailing on sleeves. Sleeves approximately 3/4 length.
