History & Notes: Donor's father, Richard John Pugh, of Nez Perce, ID, bought boots in 1910. He used them while riding in local rodeos. Father told donor they were made in 1907 in the Idaho Penitentiary (Old Idaho Penitentiary/Old Pen); who made them is unknown. In mid-1930s boots given to brother-in-law, Harry Norman, who owned a farm near Crabtree, OR. Harry Norman (donor's uncle) gave to donor in late 1950s.
Description: One pair of cowboy type riding boots made in 1907 by inmate in the Idaho State Penitentiary, purchased in 1910. Made of horsehide, natural tan color, 14" high tops with leather pulls, fancy stitched tops, leather soles and heels, size 8-10 approximately, tops are leather lined.
