History & Notes: Belonged to Katherine Cameron McLeod DeKay (donor's paternal grandmother). Possibly purchased/worn in Washington, D.C., for a women's suffrage march. Katherine was the wife of Frank Edwin DeKay who served as warden of the Idaho Old Penitentiary after his appointment by Governor Alexander in 1917. Katherine was an educator and established the kindergarten system in Pocatello. She also served as the first female school director in Bingham County and installed the first school library in the county at Blackfoot. She was the head of a Red Cross unit, held leadership positions in several sororal organizations, and served as Matron of the Old Idaho Penitentiary. Her grandchildren also remember her as a suffragette who demonstrated locally and nationally for the cause.
