History & Notes: Belonged to (and was worn by) George L. Williams. George was born in Idaho on May 1, 1881. He married Ora T. Roberts at his parents' Boise home in June 1904. George was a local grocer and butcher. He owned Williams Grocery in the 1920s. He died on March 26, 1964 and is buried in Morris Hill Cemetery. Donor identified objects as a christening coat.
Description: Ivory-colored fabric (may be cotton) and eyelet trim. Wide A-line shape with shawl. 7 buttons on front center opening. Main fabric is a textured diamond weave. Collar made of eyelet trim. Shawl and main garment are trimmed with 2" eyelet trim and 4" scalloped eyelet trim ruffle. Eyelet trim is machine-made. Garment was machine-sewn.
