History & Notes: This bonnet belonged to Boise milliner, Helena Adelmann Lubkin. Born in Baden, Germany, in 1848, Lena, as she was known to family and friends, immigrated to the United States with her family in 1854. Once in Boise, Lena owned and operated a prosperous millinery shop and was mother to five children.
Description: Black velvet bonnet with point d'esprit net overlay and large black ostrich feather plume draped over front crown. Net is gathered and pleated over the body of the bonnet Velvet ribbon is folded and attached at each side of the hat to tie under the wearer's chin. Interior is lined in black satin.
