History & Notes: This two piece child's dress was worn by Dr. T. N. Braxton when he was about five years old, around 1880. Dr. Braxton was born in Paoli, Indiana and his daughter and wife later resided in Idaho. Mrs. Braxton and their daughter Mrs. C.L. Barrett donated the dress to the Idaho State Historical Society in 1963.
Description: Two piece dress for a boy of about five years of age. Material is possibly a challis, dark blue in color. Length of the skirt is approximately 10 inches. The skirt has two rows of braid sewn to an unbleached muslin waist measuring 13 inches from shoulder to skirt which fastens in the back with 5 pearl buttons. The blouse or coat features a sailor collar and long sleeves with cuffs edged in the same braid as is on the skirt. Two rows of braid also run down the front with 6 tabs on each side, around the bottom, and up on to the two split parts in the back. Blouse fastens in the front with eight black buttons of an oval shape which bear a golden design.
