History & Notes: Upon donating this lovely wrapper in 1972, Harriet Doerr stated that the piece belonged to her grandmother, Mrs. C.C. Rinehart. Mrs. Rinehart wore the wrapper as a robe after the birth of her son Frank Atwood Rinehart in Pennsylvania. The family came to Idaho in 1897 when Frank was still a young boy.
Description: One piece princess style peignoir or wrapper with a short train. Body fabric is a black wool with multicolored paisley border. A fitted back gives way to a bloused front. White cotton under sleeves are trimmed in white lace which peek out from long over sleeve cuffs. White lace also trims the Mandarin collar. Front panel is smocked with red embroidery floss and drapes before ending in a French-tuck just below the natural waist. Interior is done in a brown cotton and closes with mismatched buttons.
